PIP Goes to Qualicum Beach

The Qualicum Beach Airport hosted its first-ever operation of an electric airplane!

In collaboration with the Town of Qualicum Beach, Sealand Flight exhibited our Pipistrel Velis Electro airplane, demonstrating the advantages of zero-emissions flight to town council members, staff members, media representatives, and the public.

Attendees had the opportunity to tour the aircraft, learn about sustainable aviation, and witness it in action. On board the electric airplane were Sealand pilot Mike Andrews and his passenger Al Walsh, an Air Force veteran who was thrilled to add the electric airplane to his logbook after many decades of flying.

Together, they took off, flew by the spectators, and then toured the local area, wondering if the residents below would notice the nearly-silent airplane overhead.

This event showcases the continued dedication and shared commitment of local aviation businesses and the municipality to pursue sustainable aviation at the Qualicum Beach Airport.

Given its intimate setting in the community, the Qualicum Beach Airport is uniquely positioned to be at the forefront of implementing alternative aviation opportunities.
